It was an amazing talk by Geethaji. She could explain a complex topic in such a simple manner. We are lucky to have her as a part of Balvihar family.
Namaste,
Hope you are doing good. Last weekend after Balvihar, your child should have brought home midterm test papers. Please check the contents, discuss it with your kids and sign it to return.
I have jotted down the correct answers and hope your child will be able to use that information to know the real content. In regards to the midterm test, I have two things to convey. 1) The kids did extremely well in December with these exact questions. There was a pop quiz and a team challenge. We had seen wonderful response and skills at that time. The subsequent holiday break, long gap away from balvihar and lack of refering their notes are the reason why the performance is not up to par.
2) Since the basic reason of test taking is to make kids learn and check on their progress, I have discussed the 12 question test on Jan 19th after the test was conducted as well as on Feb 2after the papers were returned.
I would like to inform the parents that I will be retaking theexact same test coming week so that they have all the tools and no excuse for not knowing the answers.
The questions put forward in the test are foundations of the epic. It is important for them to have that clearly cemented in their minds before we proceed for the latter part of the book. If you feel that the test was hard you have to understand that this epic is a very complicated and in order to do justice to the chapters being studied and the moral being taught they need to know the answers to those questions well. I know that the test was not hard because these very kids did beautifully when we had the quiz in December.
The chapters covered so far in continuity are : http://www.indolink.com/Kidz/Stories/mahabharat7.html http://www.indolink.com/Kidz/Stories/mahabharat8.html http://www.indolink.com/Kidz/Stories/mahabharat9.html http://www.indolink.com/Kidz/Stories/mahabharat10.html
The chapters we will be discussing in the class further on are :

For the 99% of the class who have their mahabharat book it is important that they go through the book in the reading time at home and underline the character words or places to keep their minds sharp. Please do the activity provided at the end of the page along with your kid. Please print the links being sent to you so that the kids can read the one page which is exactly the same as the keywords provided to them on the whiteboard when the chapter is being discussed during my class.
On the topic of balvihar annual day, the theme this year is "Why we do, what we do" what can be more appropriate than the story of MAHABHARATA? Every person, story, reason and cause is pointing towards that.
We are nearing the end of Mahabharata syllabus and soon we can divert all our energy with the kids in a small presentation for the annual day which has more quality and less quantity. Please try to meet me once after the class is done, if you want to enroll your child in the annual day religion class performance and also discuss your child's learning. I will require parent participation in our plans for this. Thank you. Take care, Pratibha Roochir Purani
